Beyond Ideology, Dogma, And the Self: A Case for the Right to Free, Universal Public Education

  C. Estrada, K. Rodgers. and K. Grove

Estrada presents the theoretical framework which includes recent research on affective neuroscience with an overview of Stanford's Cultivating Compassion Training, and a review of five religious traditions that support an interdependent view of "self" and "others." This possible approach sets the context for experiencing a shared common humanity open to education for all.  Rodgers and Grove present two Case Studies that support an innovative approach to partnerships and educational advocacy for those most vulnerable: one in Utah with educators and administrators working together; and one in Guatemala through a non-profit working with rural communities and international volunteers.
